Established
in 1996, the Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) serves as a voice for youth
by advising the City Council on key policy issues affecting youth
and meeting with civic leaders to advocate for youth needs. The
YC tackles issues of importance to youth and is committed to increasing
opportunities for youth participation in civic engagement and
youth leadership and empowerment. A maximum of 25 youth between
the ages of 13 and 21 are recommended by the City Council and Mayor
and are appointed by the Mayor for two year terms.

Youth Recognition Day : The Youth Commission sponsored the City's Annual Youth Recognition Day on June 30, 2006. In front of City Hall the youth commission awarded nearly 50 youth awards and certificates. The City Council also passed this resolution to honor these young people: Youth Recognition Day Resolution
